TAIZÉ SERVICES RESUME AT COMOX UNITED CHURCH

Comox United Church is inviting folks to start off the Fall season by participating in a Taizé prayer service on Friday, September 5. The services will continue through to June on the first and third Fridays of each month from 1:00 to 1:30 pm.

Taizé worship is made up of singing, listening, and short 3-to-5 minute times of silence. The songs consist of a few words or phrases sung over and over to simple melodies. The repetition is helpful not only to learn each chant, but also to allow it to become a prayer of the heart.

This practice started near the end of World War II at an ecumenical community of monks in eastern France. Since then, it has spread throughout the world. What attracts folks to this form of prayer?  “People are looking for ways to foster an interior calm in themselves and to connect to a spiritual source or ground,” suggests Rev. Karen Hollis, one of the organizers of the Comox Taizé services.

Comox United Church is located on the corner of Comox Ave. and Beach Drive.  The Taizé services will be held on the lower floor in Room 101. Enter from the back door located on the lower parking lot. For more information please call 250-339-3966.
