Light a Flame
On Thursday, April 8, at 12.30 p.m. on the eve of the Liberal National
Convention, The United Church of Canada invites us to light a candle in support
of a guaranteed liveable income (often referred to as the guaranteed basic
income). The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the importance of health and
well-being of the entire community and exposed the cracks in the current
economic situation. Building on the positive experience of the Canadian
Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), this is a unique opportunity for our
government to make an important policy change to ensure greater income
security for all Canadians.
