A bit of history:

Child Haven was formed 39 years ago by Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino of Maxville, Ontario who began by adopting 19 children from around the world. They realized a greater need and with the help of their family doctor, Dr. Nat Shah, started to build Children’s Homes and hired local staff to care for, feed, clothe and educate children and teenagers in their local communities. Today, Child Haven International cares for over 1300 children in nine homes in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
These homes employ approximately 170 local caregivers. Another aspect of Child Haven's philosophy is the commitment to improving the condition of women through direct employment, education, medical aid, legal aid, and training opportunities. Child Haven is also involved in environmentally friendly projects, family planning, literacy and soya milk production as a cottage industry for groups of women as well as providing support to needy seniors.

The needs have never been greater, as everyone is struggling with rising costs and the Child Haven homes are no exception. This event is meant to highlight the fantastic work this organization is doing to support the lives and futures of so many children and adults. The evening will include an on-line visit with Bonnie and Fred, and a preview of a new documentary on all the works of Child Haven, presented by Robin Cappuccino and Ganesh Kumar. Ganesh grew up in one of the homes, then grew to direct that same home and is now moving into a leadership role in the organization.

Let’s give them a warm Comox welcome!
