Road to COP27: Fall Webinar Series

Join us Tuesday evenings online at from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

For the Love of Creation (FLC) will be sponsoring two young women to join a global delegation to the 27th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP 27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The delegation is organized by KAIROS, with UN accreditation from the United Church of Canada. Tia Kennedy and Yusra Shafi each impressed the interviewers with their commitment to climate action, Indigenous rights and the sustainable development goals, and their demonstrated ability to mobilize a variety of means of communicating on these issues.

While the delegates are busy preparing to travel, we call on each of you to join FLC on the Road to COP27, by praying, learning, acting and advocating together over the course of three webinars and beyond.

In the first session, on October 4, we will focus on the FLC principal that recognizes Indigenous peoples’ care of and relationship with the land. This recognition is central to climate justice. The Spirit and Justice theme will focus on decolonizing climate action and coincide with the annual recognition of Sisters in Spirit Day.

In the second session on October 11, the Spirit and Change theme will focus on the change we need to see at every level. Nationally, provincially and municipally, in every sector, including faith communities, we need to see swift and wide-spread reductions in Greenhouse Gas emissions. Equally important, we need to immediately develop a just way to transition our economy to a fairer, more equitable society for workers and communities. How will we get there? Coming together is the first step.

Finally, on October 18 f the Road to COP 27: Spirit and Solidarity will look beyond Canada to our international debts and responsibilities, as the most recent climate catastrophe in Pakistan highlights. What are we asking our federal government to do on the international stage? Canadian climate finance must support climate change adaptation and mitigation measures in the Global South.
