A small group of community members are organizing a Striker Solidarity Community Rally in Courtenay in support of striking workers (BCGEU, PEA, CUPW, Unite Here Local 40, ATA, etc) and against austerity.
We have tentatively set the date for Weds. Oct 22 from 4:30-6:00pm at Sid Williams Plaza. We will offer warm beverages, snacks, music and speakers, as well as give out informational fliers with next steps, solidarity fliers that people can stick in their vehicle/house windows, and a mailing list sign-up for future rallies.
We are currently looking for support in the following ways:
• providing tents & tables (2 tents and 1 table)
• providing/covering rental costs for a small mic and battery-operated PA
• providing snacks (or more substantial food if anyone is feeling ambitious)
• providing hot beverage(s): tea/ hot chocolate and dispensers
• providing photocopying or cost for posters, info fliers, and solidarity fliers
• sharing the event details (once confirmed) / general outreach
• help with postering, banner-painting, flyer-making
• a few people to say a few words against austerity and in solidarity with the striking workers.
• musicians who can share a labour song or two
