The KNITTING GROUP meets weekly on Mondays at 1:30 at the church, in Room L1. Come in through the door off the lower parking lot, go straight ahead and we’re in the first room to your left.

We are a supportive community of people who love to craft items. We knit, crochet and quilt items to sell or give away. We have made items for Healthy Babies, the Care-a-Van, and prayer shawls for those in need or as gifts.

Prayer Shawl Ministry at Comox United Church

This ministry was introduced to Comox United Church by Laurie Davis several years ago. Laurie organized the program, kept records of the people who received a prayer shawl, and always had one wrapped and ready to be delivered. Laurie has moved to Victoria so Valetta Nixon and Elaine Burnell have taken on this ministry’ We will attempt to follow in Laurie’s footsteps.

Prayer shawls are for anyone, not just church members. They can be used for: people undergoing medical procedures; as a comfort in time of loss or in times of stress; during bereavement; birthing, nursing a baby; ministering to others; ordination, celebrations……the possibilities are endless. Requests often come from the Pastoral Care Team but anyone can request a shawl. The shawl is a gift. When a shawl is delivered, a loving prayer or verse is included which is to be read to the receiver by the person delivering it.

The prayer shawls are made by U.C.W. members, congregation members and the Knitting Group. We welcome shawls from all who knit or crochet. We have patterns and yarn available for your use. Elaine Burnell is the person to contact for materials to make a shawl. Her contact information is: eandcburnell@hotmail.com or text or call 250-465-1619.

Valetta Nixon is the person to contact to request a shawl. Her contact information is: valettanixon@gmail.com or call 250-941-6117. Valetta will also be keeping the records and preparing the shawls for delivery.

Respectfully submitted by Elaine Burnell and Valetta Nixon
